About Us

This new site plans  to give information about:

* prayer walks that have a spiritual input and are open to anyone interested, with the dates, times of meeting and levels of physical demand;  and

* routes that people can walk alone, with suggestions for spiritual content, including information about ancient sites and other stopping places along the way.

The site is maintained by the Pioneer ministry in County Clare.  See www.shannoncoclare.wordpress.com.

What is prayer walking?

Many people today are seeking to make links in how we can relate both to our ancient heritage, of buildings and traditions,  and to the energy of today’s community.

Prayer –walking follows the ancient tradition of walking together, to a destination that has a special meaning.  The journey is as important as the arriving, and the people met along the way, the experience shared and the conversations held,  are part of the process. Prayer walking  provides times to use the body as God’s gift for the purpose of prayer as well as work.  It involves us having times of silence to reflect and to enjoy the world we pass through; and times of sharing our knowledge, and our skills, of getting to know the stranger on the road.      We are part of a continuing tradition of prayer, and when we stop at sites that have been prayed at by people  before us, we honour them.  We also honour the work of those who live in the areas we pass through.
