County Clare

The following walks are planned for 2011.  They are organised by the Clare Pioneer ministry of the Methodist Church.  They are open to everyone, of all Christian traditions and none.

Prayer walks in 2011

These are currently in the planning stage but so far the intention is to have one-day walks,  arranged in clusters so that people who come from a  distance  can do more than one, and people who live more locally can come on the day.

Mid-Clare walks

07 May – Diseart O’Dea, Rath and Corofin.  Following the medieval pilgrim trail.

08 May.  C0rofin, Inchiquin Lough, Killinaboy and Parknabinna. Lunch by the Moravian ruins at Crossard.

East Clare

11 June   Inis Cealtra, Holy Island.  Leaving Knockafort pier ( opposite Golf Club entrance) at 11 a.m. Cost of boat approximately 10 euro.  Followed by evening service at 7.30 in the tenth-century church at Tuamgraney in celebration of Pentecost. Music led by the traditional harper Janet Harbison.

12 June  Walking the Shannon. A Whit Sunday walk. Times and starting places to be announced.

Burren

18 June  - Through Noughval to Kilfenora.

19 June  - Below the Burren, ending at Kilfenora.

Both walks end with an informal  service in Saint Fachnan’s medieval cathedral church.  This is the week of the Clare Fleadh Ceoil (traditional muisc festival) in Kilfenora.

West Clare

Loop Head.  We are looking at a July date, probably Saturday 09 July. Date to be confirmed within the next seven days.  Closing celebration in the Kilkee Methodist Church.

Scattery Island. Probably Friday 08 July. Boat costs 12 euro.  To be confirmed.

There is the possibility that we will repeat both these walks on the weekend 09-11 September.
